The Performance Damper is a Yamaha developed body damper that HKS supplies and tunes application by application, and it is not a suspension shock absorber. Where a suspension damper works over centimeters of wheel travel, this unit bolts to the vehicle structure and works over micrometer scale displacement, absorbing the flex and the small vibrations the body picks up from the road surface and the tires. On a full size truck body that translates into less deflection and less slop under external input, which HKS describes as sharper handling response with ride quality settled at the same time. Tuning is done per chassis rather than sold as a universal fit, and HKS positions it to work alongside its HIPERMAX coilover range.
