Brembo Prime Front Brake Disc 340x30mm Drilled and Slotted BMW 228i 328i - Composite

The 09.C398.13 is a Brembo Prime Composite front disc for the BMW F2x/F3x cars: 340 mm diameter, 30 mm thick new, ventilated, 28.4 mm minimum thickness, with a drilled and slotted braking face. Composite is Brembo’s pinned bi-material construction: an aluminium hat is joined to a high-carbon cast-iron braking ring by steel pins, so the ring can expand and contract against the hat instead of fighting it. That removes weight from the rotating assembly and keeps the ring flatter as it heats, while leaving the friction surface as iron. It is a different method from Dual Cast, where the aluminium is cast onto the ring in the foundry rather than pinned to it.

Its sibling 09.C397.13 shares every published dimension — 340 mm, 30 mm, 28.4 mm wear limit, 73 mm height, 79 mm centering bore, 5 holes — the same Composite construction and very nearly the same vehicle list. The one thing that separates them is the face: 09.C397.13 is plain, and this part is drilled and slotted. The holes and slots break up the gas and dust film that forms at the pad interface in the first moments of a stop and give the pad a fresh edge to bite, which is what makes the initial response feel sharper. Note that the suffix does not encode this: both parts end in .13, which designates Composite construction, not a face pattern. This disc also uses Pillar Venting Technology and is supplied with its hub fastening screws.
