Griot's Garage Heavy-Duty Wheel Cleaner - 1 Gallon pH-Balanced Brake Dust Remover

Heavy-Duty Wheel Cleaner is Griot's answer to wheels that go black between washes. It is pH-balanced, non-acidic and non-caustic, and it is blended thick so the solution clings to the wheel face and keeps working instead of running straight to the ground. As it reacts with the iron in brake dust the solution turns a deeper purple, so you can see the cleaner working before you ever pick up a brush. Griot's rates the current formula as working harder and smelling better than the version it replaced, and states it is safe for use on any wheel finish.

This is the wheel cleaner, not the tire dressing: it strips brake dust and road grime off the wheel, where Ceramic Tire Dressing (10842) is the satin finish you apply to the tire and trim afterwards. Part number 11027 is the one-gallon jug; the same formula is offered as 11026 (35 oz) and 10973 (22 oz).

Directions

1. Work on a cool wheel, out of direct sunlight.
2. Spray, agitate and rinse one wheel at a time so the cleaner never dries on the surface.
3. Spray the wheel thoroughly and let the thick solution cling and work; it will darken toward purple as it breaks down brake dust.
4. Agitate lightly with an appropriate wheel brush.
5. Rinse thoroughly with a spray of water.
6. About 90 percent of brake dust settles on the back side of the wheel - Griot's recommends cleaning that area regularly with a wheel spoke brush.
7. Clean the tires, then dress them once the wheels are done.
