The carbon fiber raises the compound's strength so a loaded body or a trailer does not push the pad past its working range on a long descent, and the beveled drill holes plus rounded slots pull heat and gas off the friction surface. Stainless-steel shims stand up to the temperatures a working brake reaches, while zinc plating protects the rotor from road salt and rust.
